SAE Senior Celebrations: Beatriz Acuna

Posted: May 16, 2022

Beatriz Acuna is ready to explore.

The mechanical engineering major is finishing up her degree at California State University, Northridge, where she was a member of the SAE Collegiate Chapter.

“I wanted to learn more about the world, how everything functions, and how everything arounds us is designed,” Acuna said.

Throughout her educational career, Acuna learned from important experiences both in and outside of the classroom that gave her foundational knowledge for her future. She cites mentors Melissa Flores, Aero-Thermal Fluids Engineer at Aerojet Rocketdyne, and Alexander Wisinger, Senior Material Process Engineer at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, as major influences along her path.

Working with her mentors and fellow students, Acuna has developed her skills and deepened her understanding of the world of mobility, and the possibilities for the future.

“The biggest changes that I see are the use of more eco friendly material that could be reusable to reduce waste,” she said.

As she looks to make a difference in the technology field and contribute to science research following her graduation, Acuna has accepted a position with an aerospace and defense technology company and is considering pursuing a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering.

During May, SAE is celebrating our graduating SAE Student Members by recognizing their accomplishments. We’re happy to see you achieve this milestone and can’t wait to see what you do next.
