Meet 2023 Spring Textbook Stipend Winner Yubo Fu

Posted: August 15, 2023

Yubo Fu encourages others to chase their dreams as he is chasing his own.

As a freshman at Georgia Institute of Technology, Fu got involved with SAE International right away to prepare himself to be a great engineer. His student membership has opened up several opportunities to apply the knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world problems.

Fu is a part of two engineering teams at Georgia Tech – Georgia Tech Solar Racing and Design-Build-Fly. The Design-Build-Fly team innovates solutions to unique aerospace challenges as part of the SAE Aero Design competition. This spring, his team came in first place in both the advanced and micro class at the 2023 SAE Aero Design East competition.

Fu notes that his experience on these teams has allowed him to learn from others on their new ideas, designs, and solutions, as well as build close relationships with his teammates that will last a lifetime. He plans to pursue a career in academia as a professor, giving back to the mobility industry through his academic research, teaching, unique background, and personal experiences.

“Once I become a professor, I will spread the knowledge that I have accumulated to students, introduce them to the STEM fields, and help them to grow in engineering,” Fu said. “I will encourage students to join SAE International to collaborate with engineers from different companies, countries, and disciplines to better the world.”

As a naturally curious person, Fu enjoys the process of finding out how and why things work. He hopes that one day his thinking can be the source of new, innovative solutions for practical use in the mobility industry.

“Today, I am chasing my own dream to be an educator in the aerospace engineering field. I believe that my experience can inspire students to fulfill their dreams in the mobility industry,” he said.

Fu was selected as one of SAE’s 2023 Spring Textbook Stipend winners. Recipients of the textbook stipend receive $1000 to help with the cost of textbooks.

Congratulations, Yubo! We can’t wait to see all you accomplish.
