Binary Complementary Synthetic-White LED Illuminators 1999-01-0657

Synthetic-white illuminators for automobiles and other applications were constructed using a plurality of high-intensity light emitting diode (LED) components emitting saturated light with two different complementary hues. This configuration projects an additive color mixture forming white illumination and providing high illuminance, good color rendering, and high contrast. Unique optical components, electronic controls and manufacturing processes were also employed to maximize the advantages of this new lighting technology. The resulting system provides a combination of production-proven benefits previously unavailable in compact, rugged illuminators.
