Materials for Absorptive Silencer Systems 2001-01-1458

A variety of fibrous materials are available for use in absorptive silencer systems. The acoustic performance of these materials is mainly dependent upon the number of fibers per unit volume. However, there is a wide variation in the durability of the materials in environments present inside absorptive silencer systems. This paper discusses the relative chemical and thermal durability of these systems and the mechanisms which limit the use conditions of the materials. A brief discussion of the acoustic performance of some of these materials at different filling densities (number of fibers per unit volume) is also given.
