Role of Integral Starter/Generator for Future Passenger Cars and Two wheelers 2001-28-0018
Use of an integral starter generator in place of existing starter motor and alternator is keenly considered for future applications and a significant amount of research activities are under progress exploring the various options to realize the same. Combining the functions of starter motor and alternator becomes feasible when the alternator power is sufficiently above the power requirement of starter motor. This paper discusses the role of starter generators for future passenger cars highlighting the present global status. The benefits and different configurations of starter / generators are highlighted.
Lucas TVS has recently developed a concept starter / generator for a two-wheeler application. The description of the system together with its benefits are covered in this paper. The experimental data of the starter / generator are also provided.
