ICE Idle Speed Control Using Fuzzy Idle 2002-01-1151

In the present work, some investigations on the fuzzy control of a Spark Ignition (SI) engine operating in idle speed range are reported. Idle speed control is a common problem for automotive manufacturers because of the significant nonlinearities and time delays exhibited by the system. These features make the problem quite complex and justify an in-depth investigation of it. After addressing the modeling and analysis of the engine, two control variables one controlling the opening of the air by-pass valve and other the timing of the spark that differ sensibly in both their quantitative and temporal effectiveness are used for simulation of addressed SI engine model in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
