A Study on Relationship between Pad Restraint Condition and Brake Squeal Generation 2006-01-3207

In this study, influences of the unstable pad behavior on brake squeal through analysis of the pad and rotor behavior during vehicle turning operations using a large-diameter rotor were investigated.
As a result, it was found that the local high pressure on the leading edge during rotor deflection caused by vehicle steering maneuvers acts as a trigger for the unstable pad behavior, and that it is important to mitigate an uneven pad pressure distribution through a shape change in order to improve anti-squeal performance.
