General Considerations in the Application of Gas Bearings to Long Life Turbomachinery 640502
This paper presents advantages of process fluid lubrication in turbomachinery applications. It discusses, in some detail, the various aspects of mechanical design that must be considered in gas bearing turbomachinery. It cites examples of several motor and turbine driven gas bearing machines, and discusses in considerable detail the design and evaluation of a high-temperature gas bearing helium compressor. Some of the pertinent problem areas are highlighted, and certain future gas bearing turbomachinery applications are predicted.
