Significant Properties of Gasketing Materials - Pathfinders for Proper Material Selection 680500

Several test methods are described which have been fruitdful in supplying the gasket designer with more pertinent information about the materials available to him. The tests described include: A modification of the proposed ASTM F 38 Method B relaxometer which permits the testing of gasketing materials under the controlled variables of fluid and fluid pressure as well as time, temperature, and load; the use of an erosion test to determine the strength of materials in eroding conditions; the use of differential thermal analysis to identify the thermal history of a gasket; and an extreme high load test to determine crush resistance and extrusion resistance.
Data which point out the advantages and types of information derived from each test are listed and discussed.
