A New 3.OL V6 Engine Developed by Nissan Motor Company 840254

Nissan's new 3.0 liter V6 engine was developed with a 60° bank angle and a single overhead camshaft on each bank driven by a timing belt. In Japan, it has been released for Nissan's luxury passenger car “CEDRIC” and in the U.S.A. for the new “300ZX” sports car.
In developing this new engine, the prime objectives ware excellent fuel economy, light weight, high performance and reliability. These were achieved by improving combustion efficiency, reducing mechanical friction loss, developing a high induction efficiency intake manifold and minimizing the length of crankshaft and cylinder block.
To develop this new engine, all components were redesigned using computer design techniques, and checked by extensive testing. This engine has the following variations: 2.0 liter EGI, turbo-charged 2.0 liter EGI (only for Japanese models), 3.0 liter EGI, turbo-charged 3.0 liter EGI and carburated 3.0 liter.
This paper describes the design characteristics of the basic engine components and structures.
