Global Opportunities and Risks for Electric and Hybrid Low Emission Vehicles 931011
Increasing awareness of environmental issues has created a positive climate for the development and introduction of electric and hybrid vehicles. This paper reviews the potential global market for these vehicles and contrasts the experience and trends in the introduction of electric vehicles between USA, Japan and Europe. The differences in legislation and incentives that are being used to encourage the use of EV's are contrasted and the role of central and local Government is discussed. Key technologies and possible future developments are assessed and the potential impact on the automotive industry is considered.
