SAE International Non-Event Technical Papers

SAE non-event technical papers (formerly known as written-only papers) provide authors the opportunity to publish their original work outside of a specific event’s production timeline. These papers are made available on SAE MOBILUS®, SAE’s robust online digital library platform, on an accelerated pace after a blinded peer-review process and are indexed in Scopus, Engineering Village (Ei Compendex), CNKI, IET Inspect, and Japan Science and Technology (JST) Agency. The goal is to provide authors the flexibility to publish on their own schedules, as well as offer a faster time to publication.

SAE non-event technical papers require a full manuscript for consideration and peer review. The manuscript should include an abstract, keywords, body content, conclusion, references, and any relevant figures/tables. To submit an original manuscript for review, please go to: editorialmanager.com/saetechpapers. All submissions are subject to a plagiarism check.

All SAE Technical Papers and Journals have partnered with Dimensions for citation tracking. Click here for more information.

Do you have an English-language preprint manuscript not yet under consideration or published? SAE's MobilityRxiv® is a free online preprint server for readers to browse and for authors to receive comments prior to submitting to a journal. All papers receive DOIs so that they can be cited.

Institutional Review Boards

SAE International is committed to ethical and compliant research and publications. Each author has the sole responsibility to confirm approval from the applicable Institutional Review Board (IRB) where necessary and required. All submissions to SAE publications should receive IRB approval in the following cases, including, but not limited to:

  • Research involving human subjects: in order to assure the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects and to ensure the institution and researchers/investigators have complied with applicable regulations

  • Any information or product that is subject to FDA approval, testing, or regulation

  • Any information or product that is required to follow Department of Health and Human Services (specifically Office for Human Research Protections) guidelines and regulations

  • Any information that is part of an application for a product, research, or marketing permit subject to FDA inspection or regulation

IRBs may grant exceptions to these requirements, which the author is required to provide upon request by the Publisher.

Language Editing

SAE International recommends that all authors who are non-native English speakers ask a native English speaker, English-department personnel, or a professional language-editing service to review their manuscript before submission. This is not mandatory but will help ensure that journal editors and reviewers fully understand the academic content of the article. Suggested services are as follows (no recommendation is implied, nor should it be inferred for any services):

Institutional Repository Policy

Authors may self-archive their author accepted manuscript (AAM) (but not the final typeset version) in the institutional repository of their higher education employer and/or in subject-based repositories (but not posted to networking sites of a personal, institutional, or social nature), subject to a 6-month embargo period and proper credit to SAE International. We comply fully with the open access requirements of UKRI, Wellcome, and NIHR. Where required by their funder, authors retain the right to distribute their author accepted manuscript (AAM), such as via an institutional and/or subject repository (e.g., Europe PMC), under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license for release no later than the date of first online publication, with the author including a link or citation to the final version of record on SAE Mobilus®.For further inquiries, please contact managingeditor@sae.org for journals and content@sae.org for technical papers.

Open Access for Technical Papers

SAE now offers Open Access for technical papers. For more information, view our open access policy or email any inquiries to content@sae.org.
