SAE International today released the results of the SAE Demo Days Survey that found overwhelming public enthusiasm about self-driving cars. Based on data from nearly 1,400 participants at four SAE Demo Days events, 82 percent were initially enthusiastic for self-driving cars, with nearly 10 percent of participants reporting higher enthusiasm post-ride.
Metro Detroit residents will get a rare opportunity to ride in a self-driving car -- provided by Dataspeed, Inc., of Rochester Hills -- and learn about self-driving technologies during SAE Demo Days from April 5-7 at Cobo Center. The event is sponsored by SAE International, Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE), and Dataspeed. Attendance is free to the public.
For three days beginning Wednesday, Dec. 12, SAE International invites the public to ride in a self-driving vehicle from Perrone Robotics at Babcock Ranch. The event will be held with partnership from Florida State Senator Jeff Brandes, Florida Chamber of Commerce, Velodyne, Lime, AAA and Transdev.
For three days starting Wednesday, May 9, through Friday, May 11, the public will be invited to take a ride in a self-driving car from Perrone Robotics on the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway with SAE International, Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) and State Senator Jeff Brandes. The inaugural SAE Demo Day is an opportunity for the public to experience self-driving technology and share their feedback about the ride.
As the ultimate knowledge source for automotive, aerospace and commercial vehicles, SAE International has developed the six levels of driving automation and will continue to serve as the technical and standard development resource for the future of autonomous vehicles. Supporting this leadership position, the organization held an event – Pathway to Autonomy – to showcase resources available to the mobility industry.
