This SAE standard applies to horizontal earthboring machines (SAE J2022) of the following types:
a
Auger boring machines;
b
Rod pushers;
c
Rotary rod machines;
d
Impact machines.
This document does not apply to specialized horizontal directional drills, mining machines, conveyors, tunnel boring machines, pipe jacking systems, micro tunnelers, or well drilling machines.
Rationale:
This document has been updated to remove horizontal directional drills from the scope of the standard due to the release of EN 16228:1 and EN 16228:3 that specifically cover these types of machines.
